Walking in Soria

Where can you find Soria?

The province of Soria is situated on the plateau in the heart of Spain, in the state Castile and Leon. The hills on the plateau are between 900 and 1200 meters in height. The north and the east of Soria is bordered by mountain chains with heights up to 2300 meters.

The peace in the interior

The province of Soria has a surface of 10.000 km2. With 90.000 inhabitants it is sparsely populated.

Extended estates, wooded areas and mountain chains, a lot of little villages and some small boroughs. There is hardly traffic on the local roads, no traffic-jams, no traffic lights. Here you can relax!

Due to the lack of industry the air that you breathe is clean.

How to reach Soria?

Fly into Barajas, the airport of Madrid. Soria lies only 200 km northeast of Madrid and with a rented car you can reach it easily. When you travel by car the distance of San Sebastian (near the French border) – Soria is about 300 km.

Why walk with a guide?

With us as a guide you can enjoy a carefree walk.
This increases the holiday enjoyment.

We are a mix of a local guide and a tour guide; we know the way, we speak the language and we know about the current situation on our locations. As Soria specialists we can tell you lots of its nature and culture. We take you along to special places and show you the local curiosities. With us you see more!

The daytrips

We have made daytrips in 11 different locations in the province of Soria. The trips vary in length from 8 up to 21 km. We have walking tours for both experienced walkers and less experienced strollers.

Each daytrip has its own characteristic landscape. We walk, among other things, across the extended plateau, through Mediterranean forest with green lasting oak trees, through juniper tree forest, through a valley with red earth, through dry river beds and canyons.

Every walk also has its own curiosities: a Romanesque church, a medieval castle ruin, mountain villages with traditional architecture or a colony of vultures.

Most of the trips go through mountainous areas with only small differences in height up to about 200 meters. On one location, in the Sierra de Urbión, the daytrips have a steep difference in height.

Our daytrips don’t go through official nature parks, but we have plotted them in the entire province. You will walk in peace and quiet. The routes have (almost) no tarmac. We walk over unpaved paths; forest paths, agricultural paths, sheep paths and sometimes there even isn’t a path.

We guide you through a variety of nature and show you the less known sites of the province.

What happens on a daytrip?

If the reservation is settled we will meet each other on a certain day, time and meeting point. All participants (max. ten persons) will arrive at the agreed meeting point with their own transportation whereupon we will start with our walking tour.

Along the way there are opportunities to take pictures, take a break or to enjoy beautiful places and views. We will take one longer break for lunch. You can bring your own lunch or you choose our complete lunch parcel service.

The best period to walk

Our daytrip season: from the 1st of April till the 31st of October.

We recommend spring and autumn. The temperatures are moderate in these periods and nature shows itself with its most beautiful and colourful side.

The average day temperatures in Soria are, in spring: April 16ºC., May 21ºC, June 25ºC. And in autumn: September 25ºC and October 18ºC.

Soria’s Specialities

The hunting- and the mushroom season are also in spring and autumn. In this time many restaurants serve a wild- or mycological (mushrooms) menu.
